Materials and Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study. The data of all injured patients admitted to hospitals of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences from March 2014 to March 2015 were reviewed. Accidents and injuries were categorized according to the tenth version of international classification of diseases. Data collected by means of forms and software injury register by Hospital emergency department staff to interview and hospital records, were completed. Results: In total, 131967 cases were reviewed,in which 66% were male and 34 % were female. Traumas, traffic accidents, and falls were major causes of accidents and injuries. Accidents and injuries were more prevalent in 20-29 years old (the younger age groups; 51%). Individuals living in urban areas sustained more injuries compared to individuals from rural areas. A total of 194 deaths were reported due to accidents and injuries. Conclusion: Our findings indicated that traffic accidents constitute a large proportion of accident and injuries. Productive groups (young male) were the most victims of accidents and injuries. Training of different groups, including before and during recruitment, training mothers, and elderly seems to be beneficial. Further studies to improve the registration tools for a better access to reliable data are needed. Promotion knowledge and training, especially in the younger age group, intervention to resolve the accident prone spots as well as technical defects are recommended to reduce the traffic accidents. This study was aimed to determine the oral ETT cuff pressures in mechanically ventilated patients were admitted to the intensive care unit. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted between February 2015 and June 2015. Fifty patients with oral ETT were admitted to the intensive care unit were selected. Pressure of ETT cuff was measured by a standard calibrated manometer. Data were analyzed by SPSS ver 22. Results: The Mean of oral ETT cuff pressure was 53.40 ± 25.42 cm of H2O. In 76% of cases, the cuff pressure was higher than 30 cm of H2O. There was no correlation between factors related to patients and ETT cuff pressure. Only significant correlation between the ETT cuff pressure and body temperature was observed. Conclusion: Cuff pressure is often higher than safe limits and regular monitoring of the ETT cuff pressure and preventing its consequences are much recommended. Results: Less than 45% of nurses had good communication skills and less than 50% of nurses were used standards communication items. There was a significant correlation between interpersonal skills and communication standards as well as individual skills with situation, background, assessment, and recommendation. Conclusion: Improvement of communication skills and standardized communication increase coordination between the medical team and providing information about the background and situation of the patient. Moreover, reduction of the likelihood of errors and ignoring information improve the efficiency, reduce dissatisfaction, and provide optimum care. Length of stay is one of the fundamental components of hospital performance. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the levels of care for patients and length of stay in hospital. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Scientific information using related library resources, online articles and dissertations was collected and data related to variables, average stay, and need for patient care using nursing report forms and patient cases have been collected from 204 cases in Hazrat Rasool Complex, Tehran, Iran in 2013. Results: There are significant differences between the average stay in different departments. The level of care needed with an average length of stay had strong and significant correlation. Gender, age, and marital status have no significant effect on the average length of stay. Conclusion: Although the overall performance of the hospital due to the need for patient care was desirable and appropriate, a great improvement can be achieved by enhancement of the levels of patient care. Since the aim of establishing quality management systems is accountability, transparency, and justice, this study was aimed to assess the impact of quality management system on patient centeredness. Materials and Methods: The study population included all patients at infertility care center with a sample size of 384 cases obtained from Morgan method. The confirmed patient centeredness questionnaire-infertility with 45 questions in 8 aspect, access (2 questions), information and explanations (12 questions), communication skills of employees (6 questions), participation in treatment (3 questions), respect for the values and needs (6 questions), duration of treatment (6 questions), qualified staff (6 questions), and organization of care (4 questions) was measured. After the establishment of quality management system, the same questionnaire was applied again. Results: The results showed that there is no significance difference at any dimension of patient centeredness before and after establishment of quality system management. Conclusion: The quality management system is not effective on patient-centered treatment and should be used alongside other quality models. Effective compatibility with pain requires comprehensive compliance through all aspects of patient's life. Psychological factors are central to the experience of chronic pain and can minimize the restrictive effects of pain. Materials and Methods: Two experimental and control groups, consisting 15 people were selected among patients with chronic pain in Khatam-Alanbia hospital. Kessler K10 distress questionnaire was used in pre-and post-test evaluations. Results: A significant difference was observed in distress levels between experimental and control groups in pre- and post-test evaluation. The mean value of distress in experimental group was lower than control group in post- test evaluation. Conclusion: Cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective treatment in reduction of distress in patients suffering from chronic pain. The Neuroscience Journal of Shefaye Khatam Shefaye Khatam 2322-1887 2345-4814 10.61186/shefa 2015 3 3 Grave Prognosis of Penetrating Neck Trauma: A Case Report Maryam Bahreini Mehdi Momeni Amirhossein Jahanshir ahjahanshir@gmail.com Introduction: Neck trauma management is still challenging even for experienced physicians. Stable-appearing patients may strike vascular, laryngeal or neurologic complications. Here, a patient with neck stab wound and airway compromise was discussed. Case Description: A 28-year-old conscious man was admitted to hospital one hour after an assault with a knife stab wound on the mid-superior border of right trapezoid muscle in zone II of his neck. Patient suffered from a 1 cm sharp deep wound with local emphysema but without obvious bleeding. His general condition was satisfactory and stable in the first 6 hours of admission. Computed Tomography angiography showed air in subcutaneous tissue with no injuries to great vessels and hematoma. Unfortunately, the patient began to smoke cigarette without permission and he complained the emission of smoke from his neck wound. He then, exhibited hoarseness without stridor and still no other signs were present. Results: To investigate possible airway injuries, patient underwent flexible bronchoscopy during which, the entrance wound below the larynx was found before respiratory distress occurred. His respiratory conditions became stable in ICU. Conclusion: Neck CT angiography is reported helpful in order to investigate the neck stab wound as well as to determine the need for invasive procedures in patients with stable condition.  Non-destructive upper airway injuries could be managed conservatively with careful patient clinical observation. Consultation with an anesthesiologist or ear, nose, and throat specialist for potential airway injury would be helpful.
