Abstract:   (20 Views)
Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of disability and mortality worldwide and continue to rise despite advances in treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mentalization-based treatment (MBT) and supportive psychotherapy (SP) on perceived stress among individuals with coronary artery disease (CAD). Materials and Methods: This experimental study used a pre-test–post-test design with a control group. The target population comprised all individuals with CAD who presented to Imam Khomeini Hospital (Ardabil) during the first three months of 2025 (Persian calendar), estimated at 392 persons. Sixty participants meeting the inclusion criteria were selected via purposive sampling and then randomly allocated to three groups: MBT (n=20), SP (n=20), and control (n=20). The MBT group received 12 sessions, and the SP group received 10 sessions; the control group received no intervention. Perceived stress was assessed at pre-test, post-test, and follow-up using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; Cohen et al.). Data were analyzed using Mixed ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests in SPSSv22. Results: Both MBT and SP produced statistically significant reductions in perceived stress compared with the control group. Conclusion: MBT and SP appear to be suitable strategies for reducing perceived stress in individuals with CAD and may be considered effective psychological interventions alongside medical care.
